Booking choice: The coach day trip from Paris, from $171 per person. Check dates Tour details
Étretat sits about 210 km from Paris, on the Normandy coast 30 km north of Le Havre. A day trip works. The arithmetic is unkind, though: 12 to 13 hours door to door, 5 to 6 of them on the road, and roughly 1.5 to 2 hours on the chalk.
Below, the coach, the small-group minivan, the private car, the train and your own car side by side, with 2026 prices and the time each one leaves you at the cliffs. It ends with a two-hour plan, because two hours is what most people get.
The quick answer
Yes, Étretat works as a day trip from Paris: plan on 12 to 13 hours, 5 to 6 of them on the road, and about 2 hours at the cliffs. The cheapest guided option is the coach from the Arc de Triomphe at $171, which adds Honfleur. Small-group and private days cost $320 to $669 per person. By train it's Saint-Lazare to Bréauté-Beuzeville and then the Nomad coach 504, about 3 hours each way. Two hours covers the beach and the Aval clifftop above the arch.

Can you do Étretat as a day trip from Paris?
Yes. Every tour from Paris runs 12 to 13 hours, and 5 to 6 of those are driving. You get 1.5 to 2 hours at the cliffs, which is enough for one clifftop.
The distance is the whole story. Étretat is roughly 210 km from central Paris by motorway, 2.5 to 3 hours each way depending on how the A13 behaves. One guest on the coach in October 2026 timed it: "We left Paris at 7:30 a.m., and the drive to Étretat took about two and a half hours. The bus was comfortable and had a bathroom, coffee, and water."
Most tours then add a second town, usually Honfleur, so the day isn't five hours of motorway for one view. The catch: the cliffs get the same two hours as a harbour you can see in one. If Étretat is the reason you're going, check the time table further down before you pay.
Two hours at the cliffs, two in Honfleur and coffee on board: the simplest way to do it from Paris.
Check dates for the coach day trip from ParisWhat are the ways to get from Paris to Étretat?
A coach tour, a small-group minivan, a private car with driver, the train plus a regional coach, or your own car. Prices run from about 26 euros by train to $669 for a private day.
Every option, with 2026 prices and the time it leaves you in Étretat:
| Option | Each way | Time at the cliffs | Price (2026) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coach with Honfleur | About 2.5 hours | About 2 hours | $171 per person |
| Small group with Rouen | 2.5 to 3 hours | 1 h 30, lunch included in it | $429 per person |
| Private day with the gardens | Hotel pickup at 7:00 | 1-hour guided walk and 1 hour in the Jardins | $320 per person |
| Rouen, Étretat and Deauville | Via Rouen | 1 hour lunch, then 1 h 30 | $406 per person |
| Giverny, Honfleur and Étretat | Via Giverny and Honfleur | 1 h 45, gardens included | $669 per person |
| Train and Nomad coach 504 | About 3 hours | Up to the timetable | From about 26 euros one way |
| Train to Le Havre and LiA bus 21 | About 3 hours | Up to the timetable | Train fare plus about 2 euros |
| Your own car | 2.5 to 3 hours | As long as you like | Fuel, tolls and up to 15 euros a day parking |
Two things to know. The private prices are per person, so a couple pays double. And the train is only cheap booked early: the average same-day fare is about 43 euros one way, with early fares from about 26 euros (Omio fare data).
How do you get from Paris to Étretat by train?
Not directly: Étretat has no station. Take a train from Paris Saint-Lazare to Bréauté-Beuzeville, then the Nomad coach 504 to the Grand Val stop. SNCF gives 3 h 04 for the trip.
SNCF and the Normandy region sell a combined Étretat train and coach ticket, so one booking covers both legs. In 2026 it was on sale for travel up to 31 August. Coach 504 runs every day from 1 April to 31 August and only at weekends the rest of the year; the coach leg alone is 3 euros (Nomad). Out of season that leaves very few connections, so look at the Nomad timetable before you plan a day around it.
The other route goes through Le Havre: about 2 hours by train from Saint-Lazare, then LiA bus 21 from the Le Havre stations, hourly from about 6:00 to 21:00 (from 8:00 on Sundays). It takes an hour and costs about 2 euros (LiA). Slower door to door, but it runs all year, and Le Havre is a decent base if you stay the night.

Is the coach day trip from Paris worth it?
For most first-timers, yes. At $171 it's the cheapest guided way in, and guests rate it 4.8 from 9 reviews. Expect free time, not a guided walk.
The coach leaves 1 Avenue de Wagram, by the Arc de Triomphe, at 7:30. The itinerary lists Maurice Leblanc's house Le Clos Lupin, the beach, the Jardins d'Étretat and the Nungesser et Coli monument on the Amont clifftop, then Honfleur's Vieux-Bassin, the Lieutenance and the Sainte-Catherine bell tower. In practice it's about two hours free in each town with a suggested plan from the leader. Meals aren't included, and neither is entry to Le Clos Lupin (8.50 euros for adults in 2026). The listing says it's not for travellers with back or heart problems.
The one complaint is time, and it always points the same way. "I wish we had more time in Etretat", wrote one guest. Another: "Honfleur was a nice second stop, but 2.5 hours felt like too much time there. I would have preferred more time in Étretat to enjoy the cliffs or rest after the hike." If that sounds like you, go by train and stay the night.

From the Arc de Triomphe at 7:30: about two hours at the cliffs and two in Honfleur's old harbour, back in Paris in the evening.

Fewer people, pickup at your hotel and a guide who talks. Not more time at the cliffs: every Paris tour gives Étretat 1 h 30 to 2 hours.
- The small-group day ($429, 5.0 from 15 reviews) takes seven people at most. It leaves the Opéra Garnier steps or your hotel at 7:30, stops at the Père Magloire Calvados house in Pont-l'Évêque at 10:00, walks Honfleur from 11:00, reaches Étretat at 14:00 for 1 h 30 including lunch, then Rouen from 17:00 to 19:00. Back at 21:00. One guest: "I feared that a day trip might be too rushed to be able to fully appreciate the sights. Well, I am pleased to report that I was wrong."
- The private day with the gardens ($320) picks up at your Paris hotel (750xx postcodes) at 7:00, with a 1-hour guided coastal walk and a Jardins d'Étretat ticket, then Honfleur. A March 2026 guest: "The cliffs of Etretat are stunning [...] I could have stayed there for hours just enjoying the scenery."
- Rouen, Étretat and Deauville ($406) starts with Rouen cathedral at 9:30, lunches in Étretat at 12:30 and explores until 15:00, then Deauville's boardwalk. Pickup 3 to 30 km outside Paris costs 70 euros extra. In August, one driver needed "a whole hour to find a parking place" in Étretat. That's summer here.

Seven guests at most, a Calvados tasting, Honfleur, the cliffs and Rouen in one guided day.
Check dates for the small-group day with RouenHow much time do you actually get at the cliffs?
Between 1 h 30 and about 2 hours on every Paris day trip. That's the beach and one clifftop, not the Manneporte and both sides.
From the itineraries, in 2026:
| Tour | In Étretat | Time there | What fits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Coach with Honfleur | Late morning | About 2 hours | Beach and the Aval clifftop |
| Rouen, Étretat and Deauville | 12:30 | 1 hour lunch, then 1 h 30 | Lunch and one clifftop |
| Small group with Rouen | 14:00 | 1 h 30, lunch included | Short walk to one viewpoint |
| Private day with the gardens | Late morning | 1 h walk and 1 h gardens | Amont side and the Jardins |
| Giverny, Honfleur and Étretat | 15:15 to 17:00 | 1 h 45, gardens included | The Jardins and the Amont view |
The full walk, both clifftops and out to the Manneporte, takes 3 to 4 hours. No Paris day trip gives you that. The cliff walk guide has the routes; the cruise-port shuttles from Le Havre give 4 to 5 hours if you happen to arrive by sea.

What can you see in Étretat in 2 hours?
The promenade, the climb to the Aval clifftop above the arch and the needle, and back down for lunch. Turn round at the first view of the Manneporte.
- 0 to 10 minutes: from the drop-off to the seafront promenade. Aval is on your left, Amont on your right.
- 10 to 30 minutes: up the steps at the west end of the promenade, then the grass path beside the golf course.
- 30 to 60 minutes: along the top above the Porte d'Aval and the 51-metre Aiguille. Stay 5 metres back from the edge.
- 60 to 75 minutes: push on towards the Manneporte if you're quick. Otherwise turn back here.
- 75 to 120 minutes: back down, lunch or an ice cream in town, ten minutes on the pebbles.
Bad knees? Do the Amont side instead: shorter, the chapel at the top, and the classic view back across the bay to the Aval arch. Forget walking through the arch at low tide. The tunnels, caves and the foot of the cliffs have been closed since 28 April 2025, with a 135-euro fine. An August 2026 review says "we got to go into the cave"; that's out of date, and you'd be fined for it now. The 2026 rules post lists what's closed.

Should you drive or stay the night instead?
Drive if you want sunset or both cliffs; stay over if you can. A car costs less than two tour seats, but parking is paid all year and fills by late morning in summer.
Parking runs 9:00 to 19:00 every day, weekends included. The red zone in the centre costs 3 euros an hour, up to 15 euros for 5 hours; the orange zone further out costs 7.50 euros for a half day or 15 euros for the day. Pay with PayByPhone. In high season a park-and-ride opens on the Route de Criquetot-l'Esneval (tourist office parking page). More detail in the parking and buses post.
A night on the coast changes the trip. You get the evening light, sunset around 22:00 in late June, and empty paths at 8:00 the next morning. Honfleur and Le Havre both work as bases. If one long day is all you have, Étretat and Honfleur in one day shows how to split it.
A private car from your Paris hotel, a guided clifftop walk and the gardens ticket, with no parking hunt.

Is Étretat worth a day trip from Paris?
Yes, if you accept 5 to 6 hours on the road for about 2 at the cliffs. Guests rate the Paris tours 4.8 to 5.0. If you want the Manneporte and both clifftops, stay the night.
How long is the drive from Paris to Étretat?
About 210 km, which is 2.5 to 3 hours each way by motorway. A coach guest timed the outbound run at about two and a half hours from the Arc de Triomphe.
Can I do Étretat and Mont-Saint-Michel in one day from Paris?
Not sensibly. Mont-Saint-Michel is more than 250 km west of Étretat, so you'd spend 9 to 10 hours in a vehicle. Pair Étretat with Honfleur or Rouen instead.
Is lunch included on Étretat day trips?
No. None of the Paris tours here includes a meal. The coach serves coffee, tea and water, and the small-group and private tours include bottled water. Budget for lunch on the seafront.
